HELMETTA, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police officers from multiple agencies are searching for a man Wednesday wanted in connection to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

The FBI has been looking all day for 47-year old-Gregory Yetman, who is described as in his 40s and wearing a red jacket and baseball hat.

Authorities put out a notice to expect police activity on Main Street in Helmetta near the border of Monroe Township.

Local, state and federal forces could be seen in heavy tactical gear as a state police helicopter could be seen making several passes over the area where he was last seen.

He apparently ran out of the back of the house when agents arrived.

The New Jersey National Guard said Yetman served in the National Guard for approximately 12 years until March 2022.

East Brunswick police say there is no concern for the safety of the community, but the mayor was flooded with questions from residents.

"Your mind certainly goes to think the worst first, rightfully so, residents are concerned -- have they found this individual, is this individual looking to harm us, law enforcement did share they feel the resident isn't out to harm anyone, this goes back to the January 6 incident," Mayor Chris Slavicek said.

Yetman is on the FBI's most wanted list and the independent group Sedition Hunters have kept images of Yetman on their social media pages.

Their tips have helped to identify dozens of other suspects.

Slavicek said he is optimistic that local law enforcement will eventually track Yetman down.

Police are asking anyone with information to call FBI Newark at (973) 792-3000.
