HILLCREST, Queens (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after police say a human leg was found in the parking lot of a TD Bank Wednesday evening in Queens.

The discovery was made by a member of the TD Bank's cleaning crew, who was taking out trash when they spotted the body part, in the bin under some trash.

Upon arrival, police confirmed a decomposed human leg attached to a foot was found in a blue trash container next to a dumpster in the parking lot of a TD Bank in the Hillcrest neighborhood.

Neighbors say it was that smell that attracted construction workers on a job site to investigate the blue recycling bin.

"Before you could see, you could smell the dead body," neighbor Amir Bedawi said.

"I saw a blue trash can recycle bin where the body was dumped and I saw it open and some stuff hanging out, and some garbage and a shoe," neighbor Maksim Dlugunovich said.

Police are looking at video from a nearby home showing a person wheeling the recycling bin down the block and toward the dumpster back on September 11.

It sat for nine days until the grisly discovery Wednesday evening.

Bedawi says he saw the video.

"It showed like someone dropping it off next to the dumpster," he said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
