Transformer explosion leads to power outages for Hoboken residents

HOBOKEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Power has been restored after a transformer explosion led to outages for Hoboken residents Monday night, according to the mayor.

PSE&G says the incident started around 7:30 p.m. and was weather related.

Both the Hoboken Fire Department and PSE&G responded to outages and electrical emergencies across the city.


Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla said that thousands of residents, including himself, were without power.



Just before 11 p.m., the mayor tweeted that power had been fully restored.

According to PSE&G, more than 500 customers were affected.
