Woman missing after running back into burning home to save pets in Hillside, New Jersey

HILLSIDE, New Jersey (WABC) -- A woman is missing after she ran back into a burning home in Hillside to save her pets and never came back out.

Officials say flames broke out at at a home on Conant Street around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

A woman reportedly went inside the burning home to rescue the family dog and never came out.

Two other residents were able to escape, officials said.

The search for the missing victim is slow and meticulous. Heavy equipment was being used to pull apart the charred remains of the two-story house that neighbors say was recently renovated.

The family has been waiting at a neighbor's house to see if they get any word on the victim.

The cause of the three-alarm fire is still under investigation.
