Pedestrian killed on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park

MASSAPEQUA PARK, Long Island (WABC) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck on the eastbound Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park Thursday morning.

According to detectives, around 4:45 a.m., a tow truck traveling on the Sunrise Highway struck Rebecca M. Tighe, 26, of Seaford as she was walking north at Park Boulevard.

Tighe was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle remained at scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Eastbound lanes were closed after the victim was hit.

The crash investigation closed eastbound Sunrise Highway lanes at Park Boulevard and closed Park Boulevard in both directions.

Brake and safety checks were performed at the scene. No apparent criminality is suspected at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
