Nassau County police step up patrols after 'unrealistic' school bomb threat

NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island (WABC) -- Police in Nassau County are increasing patrols at schools within the county after receiving what they say is an "unrealistic" bomb threat.

Police say they received a call late Sunday from someone who said he heard an unidentified male say he "put bombs in every school in Nassau" and was planning to set them off Monday.

Police say the information is unconfirmed and seems unrealistic, however all schools are advised to be alert to suspicious packages or people.

They are asking everyone to remain alert.

Immediate threats should be called into 911 and tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

Suspicious social media activity can also be reported through Text-a-Tip via the Nassau County Crime Stoppers app.
