1 person suffers apparent gunshot wound, 2 officers hospitalized in Newark police-involved shooting

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Three people, including two officers, were hospitalized following a police-involved shooting in Newark Monday morning.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor, police responded to a report of domestic violence in an apartment building on Clinton Avenue at around 4 a.m.

Authorities say when the officers encountered 30-year-old Hakeem Murchison in a hallway he pulled out a gun and started shooting at them.

The officers, neither of whom were hit, returned fire, striking Murchison.

Murchison was taken to University Hospital for treatment.

He's charged with aggravated assault and two weapon offenses.
