NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two teenagers were rushed to the hospital after being shot in Newark on Thursday, according to authorities.

It happened just before 3 p.m. near the Golden Pizza shop on South Orange Avenue, where police say they found the victims, a 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, wounded.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News that the shooting stemmed from some sort of dispute inside the small pizzeria with another customer.

One was shot in the arm, and the other was shot in the torso.

Both victims have been taken to University Hospital for treatment and each is reportedly in stable condition, according to officials.

Police are searching for the shooter, but it's unclear who fired the shots.

"It sounded like a bomb," described Maria, who works in the shop and said that it was crowded with students after school before an argument ensued.

Residents described their frustration with violence involving kids.

"Everyone has kids out here. Our kids have to grow up," resident Jeffrey Gilliam said. "How can our kids grow up if they are getting shot like this? It doesn't make any sense."

The shooting is under investigation.
