Police say a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling eastbound on Woods Road in North Babylon at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the marked police car at the intersection of Elkton Lane just before 2 p.m.

The vehicle then struck the house on Elkton Lane and caught fire, which then spread to the house.

That fire has since been extinguished.
The officer was transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, 31-year-old DeSean Player of West Babylon, was arrested on drug charges.
Player was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, Steven Glover, was also arrested after fleeing the scene.
Glover was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.
Player faces drug charges and reckless driving, while Glover faces drug charges and attempted assault for kicking and spitting at an officer while stating he had COVID.

The North Babylon Fire Department, PSEG and the Town of Babylon Building Inspector responded and assisted at the scene of the house fire.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
