Asylum seeker accused of killing another at Randall's Island migrant shelter

RANDALL'S Island, Manhattan (WABC) -- An asylum seeker has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing another on Randall's Island.

Both asylum seekers were staying at the migrant center on the island. Police say the two men got into a fight and one stabbed the other in the chest.

Moises Coronado, 27, was arrested and charged with murder early Sunday morning.

The stabbing occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Dafren Canizalez.



He was brought to a local hospital after the stabbing and was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The stabbing remains under investigation.
