ST. ALBANS, Queens (WABC) -- Police are investigating a double shooting in Queens that occurred Saturday night, leaving one dead and another injured.

At around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a person who had been shot inside a residence on Pineville Lane in Saint Albans.

Upon arrival, police found two victims who had been shot several times.

Julie P. was washing dishes when she heard the gunshots. She looked out her window and saw a group of people in her kitchen next door looking down -- possibly at one of the bodies.

"I was scared, because I'm looking at them, and I'm scared if a bullet should come at me. They were right in front of me," said Julie.

Police say two people were shot numerous times inside the home -- the suspect was their own uncle, police believe. Chevaughn Millings, 25, was pronounced dead. A 20-year-old woman who was shot survived.

Police say an argument over cooking could possibly be the reason for the shooting.

The violence in what appears to be a quiet, residential neighborhood has only grown -- according to neighbors, and the crime scene tape is all too familiar. They say they can't help but remember another deadly shooting that happened just about a block away.

"A correction officer was shot around the corner," said Cavita Lewis.

John Jeff, a 28-year-old correction officer was killed in August of 2020 after leaving a party in the neighborhood. His killer remains on the loose despite a weathered poster offering a reward for an arrest.

Neighbors hope this most recent shooting does not go unsolved -- they would like to feel safe again.

"I grew up on this block, so it's just sad how it changed," Lewis added.

The suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle.
