3 killed, several others shot in span of 24 hours in the Bronx

THE BRONX (WABC) -- Three people were killed and several others were shot in the Bronx in a span of 24 hours.

The suspects were seen shooting out of a car in broad daylight. The gunfire grazed one mother as she walked with her six-month-old baby and four-year-old child.

As a white BMW headed up East 171st Street, people sitting outside, including children and seniors scrambled for cover as they heard gunfire. A man was seen emerging from the sunroof, and another hung out the passenger side window, with a gun aimed at the building.

Eyewitnesses say the men seemed to be aiming for two teenage boys, missing them and grazing a young woman with two children.

As the search continues for the two suspects, neighbors ask when it will be safe to be outside.

"What are we supposed to do? Come in and close our doors and pull the covers over our heads?" said Brazil Serrano.

"I can't go outside without feeling unsafe, because of all the shootings happening lately. So it's scary," said 15-year-old Klayani Mollette.

A man and a woman were also shot inside a car on East 170th and Morris Avenue just after midnight on Saturday. There is no word on any suspects or motive. The man survived with a wound to his leg. The 37-year-old woman did not survive - she was shot in the head.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, three men in their twenties were shot on the Grand Concourse at East Burnside Avenue. One of them did not survive. The other two are recovering. Police are currently questioning someone.

Late Saturday afternoon shots were fired in the Williamsbridge section. A 41-year-old man was found wounded in a white Mercedes. He made it only a few blocks from the scene of the shooting and died at the hospital. Police say a 34-year-old man believed to have been shot in the same incident got himself to an emergency room and is recovering.

One neighbor says he heard eight shots.

"It's become part of life here - hear shooting, hear this, hear that - but this is too close for comfort," said Jose Mercado.

No arrests have been made in any of the shootings in the past 24 hours. All incidents remain under investigation.
