Bronx teen holding machete struck by NYPD van

FORDHAM, Bronx (WABC) -- A 17-year-old holding a machete was struck by an NYPD police van as officers attempted to apprehend him in the Fordham section of the Bronx on Monday night.

The teen was spotted with a machete in his hand by officers just after 10 p.m. When the officers attempted to question him, the teen ran away.

The officers caught up to him in their van on the Grand Concourse at East 193rd Street. When the teen ran into the street, he fell and was struck by the vehicle.
The teen was then taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he is in stable condition. Charges against him are pending.
