BROOKLYN (WABC) -- An 11-year-old riding a scooter is in critical condition after being hit by a driver who fled the scene in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, according to police.

Officers responded to 2183 Ocean Parkway in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn just before 6 p.m. for reports of a vehicle collision involving two pedestrians.

Police said a 2026 Acura Integra sedan was traveling northbound on Ocean Parkway approaching Avenue V, when it came into contact with a two-wheeled vehicle with an 11-year-old on board.

The 11-year-old was struck by the Acura, which then fled the scene and was found abandoned on Ocean Parkway, police said.

The driver fled on foot, police said.

A 25-year-old male was also struck by debris that was dislodged by the Acura when it came into contact with the 11-year-old.

EMS transported the child and the 25-year-old to Maimonides Medical Center, where the child is in critical condition, police said.

The 25-year-old is expected to recover, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
