QUEENS, New York (WABC) -- More than a dozen people were hurt in a bus collision in Flushing, Queens, on Monday morning.

It happened near Bowne Street and Sanford Avenue around 9 a.m.

Police say the operator of a Q27 bus westbound on Sanford Avenue had a mechanical issue with the brakes.

The driver tried to avoid another westbound Q27 bus directly in front of him but couldn't avoid striking it.

Officials say 14 people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. At least five others refused medical attention.
