It happened Saturday just before 5 p.m. on the corner of Walton Ave. and Elliot Place in Mt. Eden. Police say it appears the boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time when a large group got into an argument.
A witness says he heard five shots, saw a boy on a bike collapse on the sidewalk and the shooter drive away in a Jeep.
In addition to the boy who was killed, a 34-year-old man was shot in the foot and a 25-year-old was shot in the backside. Both of them are expected to survive.
Police have not released the 12-year-old's name and they do not have any descriptions of the suspects.
No arrests have been made.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted on X saying,
A 12-year-old was shot and killed in the Bronx earlier today. My heart breaks for his family, friends and all those who loved him. Their loss is unimaginable. I am praying for the speedy recovery of the other two victims of this shooting. I'm grateful for the hospital staff, and the NYPD for their work to find those responsible for this heinous act. Our children should be able to ride their bikes on a nice summer day in their neighborhood without fear of being shot. We cannot accept this violence as normal.
