North Arlington police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Ridge Road and Belleville Turnpike around 8:37 p.m. Officers arriving at the scene found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
The victims were apparently the target of a new boyfriend.
A mother is distraught after an ugly domestic dispute turned violent claiming the life of her son and a relative.
Her son is 28-year-old Brian Lockett.
His mother, believes his ex-girlfriend is the catalyst.
Lockett's mom says her son was the father of two children with an ex-girlfriend.
The ex-girlfriend now has a new boyfriend.
That boyfriend came to pick up the two kids in his own car, but he also brought some other friends that followed in a rented van.
Apparently Lockett and the new boyfriend had a verbal dispute.
Shortly after, a man jumped out of the driver's seat of the rented van leaving the driver's side door open and engine running.
He apparently fired three shots hitting Lockett and his 29-year-old relative.
The driver of the rented van quickly jumped back into the vehicle and took off.
The car driven by the current boyfriend pulled away from the scene a few minutes later.
The victim's mother says the kids were unharmed.
Police have recovered the vehicles involved.
At this point, there is no word on any arrests, but the case is being investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
