The crash happened around 9:58 p.m. near East 163rd Street and Hunts Point Avenue.
FDNY officials said EMS treated five people at the scene. Three people refused further medical attention, while two others were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions are not yet known.
Initial reports showed the buses sideswiped each other. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
