EAST HARLEM (WABC) -- Two NYPD Auxiliary Officers are accused of robbing a food delivery man in East Harlem.

It happened on Wednesday February 25th at 12:38 a.m.

A 48-year-old man was delivering food to someone inside of an apartment on E. 102nd Street.

The delivery man was met inside by two men in the lobby who displayed police shields and accompanied him into the elevator, to the 14th floor.

The victim attempted to deliver the food to the apartment but the person inside said that they did not order any food.

The delivery man walked back to the elevator, where police say the two men were waiting, and was assaulted.

The two suspects then allegedly forced the victim out of the elevator where they handcuffed him, with his hands behind his back, and removed $180, his wallet, and iPhone 4S.

Police say the suspects then fled, leaving the delivery man handcuffed in the stairwell.

Officers responded to the location and removed the handcuffs from the delivery man.

The NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau's Police Impersonation Unit responded to the location to investigate this incident.

The Internal Affairs Bureau learned the identity of one of the suspects and later determined that the two men allegedly involved were Auxiliary Police Officers.

Two days later, the suspects, 22-year-old James Kiernan and 22-year-old Jordan Martinez, were arrested and charged with robbery, burglary, unlawful imprisonment, criminal impersonation, assault, and criminal mischief.

"That's what you call betrayal, betrayal to society. We put our trust in these guys and that's what happens?" a resident said.

"People trust these people; you know they're in uniform. When you basically betray the public's trust then you don't know who to trust," another resident said.

Police are asking for victims of similar incidents to contact the NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau at 212-741-8401 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
