PELHAM GARDENS, The Bronx (WABC) -- A 2-year-old boy rushed to the hospital on Thursday in what appears to be a backyard pool accident in the Bronx.

The child was found unconscious around 5:20 p.m. at a home located at 2703 Woodhull Ave. in the Pelham Gardens section.

He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, and is listed in critical condition.

People from the neighborhood told Eyewitness News they heard a scream, then within minutes police and firefighters arrived.

"There was an urgency, yeah those cops, the EMT's, firefighters, cops and everybody were moving. They were running to that backyard," said one neighbor.

"They brought a stretcher in, and they had the baby on it, he looked unresponsive," another neighbor said. "I just didn't want to see that it was the baby, because it's not fair."

The neighbors say the boy lives at the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
