4 hurt after fuel tanker fire engulfs part of Route 287 in Edison, New Jersey

EDISON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Four people were hurt after a massive fire engulfed part of a highway in Edison, New Jersey after a 8,000 gallon fuel tanker ignited.

Over 150 firefighters are on scene, according to Edison Mayor Sam Joshi.

Route 287 is closed in both directions by Exits 1 and 2 as emergency workers try to douse the flames.

"Route 27 between Vineyard and Bridge St are also shut down," Mayor Joshi said. "Traffic is being diverted to Rt 1."
