7 On Your Side helps mother clear her name after someone was committing crimes, impersonating her

Patience Daniels has been patiently trying to clear her name for almost a decade.

Her license was suspended and that meant she couldn't work the job that she loved, taking care of adults with disabilities.

She says someone else was committing crimes and pretending to be her.

"They looked at me like I was a criminal and I don't have a criminal record," said Daniels.

Daniels sat at her kitchen table, looking through the various judgments and tickets racked up in her name.

"These are the tickets; driving while using mobile phone and drug possession. The people of the state of New York versus Patience Daniels, the defendant," Daniels said.

All these charges against her, except she says a family relative racked up violations and impersonated Daniels.

"She got pulled over, she gave my name. Then, you know, she was in the car with no registration, no insurance you know those are hefty charges," Daniels said.

Daniels, who went to court, got some of the judgments dismissed but lost a key to her independence, her license.

The mistaken license suspension could not come at a worse time.

Daniels is raising a daughter on her own after her daughter's father was murdered by a gunman inside their home in 2015.

She had to move in with her dad after she lost her driver's license.

Reminiscing about when she moved in with her father, Daniels said, "I would have been lost. He just told me, 'You know what, baby, it's going to be okay.'"

Her father, a deacon, died from cancer last year.

"This is my dad's obituary. When he passed, I said, 'you know what? I wanna do everything he said I should do,'" she said.

Daniels said, "he watched Channel 7. I called Nina on my side."

7 On Your Side reached out to the Suffolk Traffic and Parking Violations agency and, after nine years of trying on her own, within 48 hours her record was wiped clean at both the county courthouse and with the New York State DMV.

"All wiped away, all wiped away. Thank you," Daniels said.

Almost $6,000 in judgments dismissed and her license restored. Daniels is still working to keep that smile on her father's face in heaven.

"He would be so proud; he would be so happy. 7 On Your Side, thank you so much," Daniels said.
