From Sunday through Saturday, Aug. 16, qualifying purchases of clothing, backpacks and footwear are exempt from Connecticut's 6.35% sales tax.
The exemption applies to items priced individually at less than $300 and covers purchases made both in stores and online.
Some items are not eligible for the tax exemption. Excluded products include specific athletic gear; jewelry; handbags; luggage; umbrellas; wallets; watches; and electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, calculators and cell phones.
The weeklong exemption gives shoppers a temporary break from Connecticut's sales tax on qualifying apparel and footwear purchases before the program ends Saturday.
