9 hurt, including firefighter, amid restaurant fire that spread to apartments in Corona, Queens

CORONA, Queens (WABC) -- FDNY crews rescued several people after a restaurant fire spread to apartments above in Corona, Queens early Saturday morning.

79 fire and EMS workers raced to respond to the fire that began at JC Restaurant, located at 107-20 Corona Avenue.

The fire quickly moved from the restaurant to the apartments above, trapping two occupants.

Fire crews worked to subdue the flames and rescue residents, using ladders to reach those trapped above.

Nine people were injured, including a firefighter. Eight did not require medical attention, and one person with minor injuries was taken to an area hospital.



The Red Cross is helping residents who were displaced.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
