Police first arrived on the scene along Oaklawn Avenue on Tuesday morning to serve an eviction order before the hours-long standoff unfolded.
Stamford police responded to the scene with a moving truck to begin the eviction process, and when they approached the house, they were shot at by the suspect.
Officials say gunfire was exchanged numerous times between police and the suspect.
A hostage negotiator was called in and tried to get the suspect to surrender and come out safely.
At one point, officers heard a single shot come from inside the home.
A drone was sent in to confirm the condition of the suspect and police say it appears the homeowner, later identified as Jed Parkington, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials say they also found explosives including pipe bombs, grenades and Molotov cocktails.
No Stamford officers were injured during the incident.
The deceased suspect's wife had previously written a heartfelt letter to the judge that was overseeing the eviction.
It read in part, "I am a 69-year-old lady who suffers from diabetes, depression, and memory loss. I do not have a place to move." She went on to say that her husband fell ill with cancer and COVID and lost his job back in 2014. "We were not able to recover economically and are now suffering the loss of our home."
The identity of the second body found in home was not yet known and the investigation is ongoing.
