Bayonne showed their might Wednesday night, delivering a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to beat Massachusetts 2-1 in their opening game of the Little League World Series.
Even before the dramatic win, for fans who now get to watch their squad compete in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the moment is a dream come true.
"That's my brother! He's really good at baseball, he got 3 RBIs!" said Layla Garcia Rose, sister of player. "His whole team is great, I like all of them."
Support for the team has been on full display across the city. T-shirts featuring the slogan "Bayonne vs Everybody" have been selling out as fans gear up for the team's first game.
"I've got eight shirts and they are all going out of town. My brother lives in Lakewood and he's got a gang of seven," said Carmela Karnoutsos, a Bayonne fan.
Ahead of Wednesday's game, the team was already feeling plenty of hometown support.
Matthew Gill, Vice President of Bayonne Little League, said, "They're tough and they never give up. They want this for themselves and for each other. They are playing for each other and their town and it's awesome to watch."
Bayonne faced off against a team from Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Supporters say the team has shown its ability to bounce back and believe in itself no matter the odds... and that showed with their picture-perfect moment Wednesday night.
