HARLEM, N.Y. (WABC) -- The goal is to create a warm welcome home for 23 women in crisis who could really use one.

Bowery Mission resident, Tanna, called the center a life saver. "This has been lifesaving - there are no words for how amazing I feel."

The women's center in Harlem is on a quiet street, and has cozy bedrooms and a stocked open kitchen. There also a computer room. Many of the residents have been through trauma, addiction and homelessness.

It is designed to be a home.

Everything has been donated or bought with donations... and the whole idea is to get residents back up on their feet."

"They come in lost and often find a renewed faith -- faith most of all in themselves -- and a plan for the future," said Veronica Kelly, director of special projects.

"From the first day, you are loved. And you are taken care of emotionally and physically ... A lot of us have been in other places - dark places, terrible and that is big for us, " said another resident Sheila.
