It happened around 4:40 p.m. on East 163rd Street and Washington Avenue in the Melrose section, just up the street from the 42nd precinct.
Police say the suspects, two males, walked up and opened fire on a group of males standing near the front of Boriqua College.
They missed their targets, and instead hit an innocent 20-year-old man, driving by in a car, in the shoulder. The shattered glass hit his passenger, and 11-year-old boy.
Both were taken to Lincoln Hospital, where they are being treated.
No other injuries have been reported.
Police say the two suspects grabbed CitiBikes and fled the scene. They say they have one person in custody for questioning.
A mother who heard six shots fired called it scary.
"Because it could be, god forbid, my son," Perla Castro said. "Too much delinquency. And nobody puts a stop to it. It's been years."
The investigation is ongoing.
