The one-year old male named King was seen being kicked like a football in a Facebook video. He was treated at the ASPCA Animal Hospital and has now recovered from his injuries.
King's new home met all the requirements set forth by shelter staff.
"We are pleased to have found a wonderful home so quickly for King," said Gail Buchwald, Senior Vice President of the ASPCA Adoption Center. "We know some people may be disappointed they did not get a chance to take King home. However, we want to remind you all that this month is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month and there are many adoptable cats and kittens in need of homes in shelters across the country."
The suspect, Andre Robinson, was charged with animal cruelty in a story that sparked outrage across the Tri-State Area. Police launched an investigation after Eyewitness News brought the video to their attention.
Police say Robinson was waiting for a food delivery when he turned to his friends and said "watch this." He then allegedly lured the cat by holding out his hand and kicked him, while a friend videotaped the incident. The cat flew about 20 feet.
The cat was tracked down by 16 rescuers at the Brevoort Houses in Stuyvesant Heights, with the NYPD and North Shore Animal League involved in the effort.
It took several hours to coax the cat into a cage, and then he was brought to the facility for medical treatment.
