One of the victims, an 83-year-old Air Force Veteran Richard Williams, was on life support after the incident but later died from his injuries.
Prosecutors say Bairon Hernandez shoved Williams and another man onto the tracks on the Upper East Side on March 8.
Bairon Hernandez, 34, originally from Honduras, has a prior conviction in New Jersey for entering the country illegally and a conviction in Texas for re-entering illegally.
The Department of Homeland Security said Hernandez has a lengthy rap sheet and was in the country illegally after being deported four times.
The other victim, a 30-year-old, survived.
Hernandez will be arraigned on March 30.
