Sunday, July 27, 2025
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- He was for months trying to figure out whether to try to keep his congressional seat or run for the Republican nomination for governor of New York.

Mike Lawler decided he will not run for governor.

Bill Ritter asks him about why he bowed out, the role President Trump played in the decision, the nasty words Lawler has for Governor Hochul, and vice versa, and his words for the Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York.

Also, we hear from Congressman Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey.

He gives his take on the recent victory in Congress for Republicans, and what the Democrats need to do now to try to regain control of the House.

Up Close airs Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. on Channel 7, WABC-TV in New York City.
