On Saturday, the ship started its return home to Mexico. Hundreds of people greeted the crew of the Cuauhtémoc before the ship's departure from Pier 86 near the Intrepid.
It was on May 17 when the ship ran into the Brooklyn Bridge. Two sailors were killed.
The damaged ship was later towed to a Staten Island shipyard for repairs and completed sea trials on Friday.
According to the South Street Seaport Museum, the ship was built in Spain in 1981. Since the Mexican Navy acquired it, 31 generations of officers have graduated from its decks. It is a piece of history and an emblem of resiliency.
