Deborah Cox has one of them.
From Billboard chart-topping hits to dance floors around the world to the stages of Broadway, the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, and R&B and dance legend has never stopped reaching.
Joelle Garguilo: What drives that? You keep going.
Deborah Cox: I've always been very ambitious. I've always had many, many jobs, different things to do. I'll take it on as a challenge.
As for her latest challenge, she's now starring in Titanique, the hit musical where Céline Dion narrates the story of the Titanic from her point of view.
Joelle Garguilo: Let's just say someone wants to go see something and hears, "Oh, Titanique, that must be the story of the Titanic." To that, you would say...
Deborah Cox: It's a parody. It's all these cast members who are characters in her imagination as she tells the story of the film. I play the Unsinkable Molly Brown, and it's hysterical. It's like a bunch of kids on a playground who all decided to take part in this show.
For Deborah, it's a full-circle moment decades in the making.
Joelle Garguilo: When you were starting out, you sang background for Céline Dion. Now you're in a Broadway show that kind of pays homage to her.
Deborah Cox: I sang backgrounds for her for a year. I feel, in many ways, this show really is a celebration of her music, her love of music, and just what she's contributed - her legacy. It's a fun show to be a part of, and to do it every night in honor of her really is a full-circle moment. There are moments where I'm singing some of the songs and thinking, "Gosh, I remember when we sang backgrounds on 'If You Asked Me To' or 'Beauty and the Beast,' and here we are years later."
Joelle Garguilo: When you belt out "All by Myself" - chills. That's what it's like for us in the audience. What is it like for you on that stage?
Deborah Cox: I connect with the song, and it's always been one of my favorite songs. To be able to do that every single night in the show is pretty amazing.
It goes without saying, Deborah Cox knows a thing or two about powerful voices. She shared a stage with one of the greatest of all time.
Joelle Garguilo: I would love to know a story that comes to mind when you think about your time working with Whitney Houston.
Deborah Cox: Just joy. She was a funny, funny person. She would always give great advice - a real big sister. I feel like she always invited all of us singers, whether we were on the same label or even competing labels. She always encouraged a true sisterhood.
Joelle Garguilo: What do you love about the show?
Deborah Cox: Everything. I love having fun, so as long as it's fun, I'm in.
Joelle Garguilo: Let's end with one thing you want everyone to know about Titanique.
Deborah Cox: The show is hysterical. It's a beautiful distraction.
