NYPD investigating after 2 people struck, killed by car while on motorized scooter in East Harlem

EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Two people on a motorized scooter were struck and killed by an SUV in Manhattan on Sunday morning.

The collision happened around 4:40 a.m. at the intersection of East 106th Street and Third Avenue.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Rav4 was traveling westbound on East 106th Street when it collided with the scooter.

Officers say a 30-year-old man operating the scooter and a 35-year-old woman, who was his passenger, were struck during the collision. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the NYPD, the driver of the car remained on the scene of the crash.



First responders transported the SUV driver to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in stable condition.

Authorities are still investigating what led up to the fatal collision.
