2 teens injured during shootout in East Harlem, police say

EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- Two teens were injured during a shootout in East Harlem, according to officials.

Police responded to shots fired at 221 E. 123rd St. and 2nd Avenue around 5 p.m. Monday,

When officers arrived, they discovered an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy firing shots toward each other. An officer fired a round of shots, officials say.

Both teens were then taken into custody.

Officials say the 15-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.



A firearm was recovered in the bag of the 18-year-old.

During the incident, a second 15-year-old also sustained a gunshot wound to his left knee. He was also taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. It



is unclear if the officer shot either of the teens who were injured.
