FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens (WABC) -- The family of a man killed in a police shooting in Far Rockaway, Queens, is disputing the police account of what happened.

The father of 29-year-old Chez Fray called 911 on Sunday, asking officers to come speak to his son, who he says was acting erratically after smoking marijuana.

Police say an officer opened fire after Fray got into a physical altercation with his dad while holding a box cutter and charged at officers.

Fray's dad says he was hugging his son and there was no altercation.

"He did not have an altercation at all in the hallway it did not happen, he embraced his son. When he saw his son, he told him he loved him and told him he wants to get him help," Civil Rights Activist Rev. Kevin McCall said.

The family is calling on the State Attorney General to investigate and for the police body camera video to be released.

The NYPD is conducting an internal review.
