Officials with the FDNY said one civilian also suffered minor injuries.
The fire started around 10:40 a.m. at a home on Taylor Street in West Brighton.
Citizen App video showed firefighters on scene as heavy flames and thick smoke billowed out of the home.
Six firefighters were injured, including two with minor burns, but five were ultimately taken to the hospital. The injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Firefighters responded to a report of people trapped in the house, but found no one inside.
Flames were coming out the front door, out the front of the building and the right side of the building and firefighting efforts were hampered by a gas meter on fire, turning it into a gas-fed fire.
One firefighter was carried out to safety after declaring a mayday. He was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Officials are now trying to determine what caused the fire as part of their investigation.
