He skillfully handled the landmark opioid litigation during the pandemic, which was one of the largest cases of its kind and one of the most impactful tort cases in the state's history.

The national and state flags that were posted at Garguilo's bench were taken down, folded and presented to Joelle's mother, Angela, his wife of 52 years.
Judge Garguilo passed away suddenly in September, just shy of his 75th birthday.
