Free Black Women's Library is critical cultural hub, safe haven for inclusive literature

BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) -- In a time when diversity initiatives are being rolled back, books are being challenged, and public libraries are facing funding threats, one Brooklyn-based project is pushing back - by giving readers free access to stories and resources that might otherwise be out of reach.

The Free Black Women's Library is more than a book collection, it's a Black feminist social art project offering thousands of free books, a community pantry, garden space, and public programs designed to educate and empower.

Led by founder Ola Akinmowo, organizers say the space is becoming a critical cultural hub, and a safe haven for inclusive literature.
