LOS ANGELES -- Ask and you shall receive!

John Oliver is checking in to "General Hospital."

Back in March, the host of "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" lobbied for a role on a soap opera after noting that he was jealous of celebrities who would appear on soaps, particularly ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, who has a recurring role on the long-running, Emmy-winning series (he plays Brick, a fixer of sorts for Maurice Benard's Sonny Corinthos).

In the segment, he said he wanted to be a part of the soap opera world, but stated his conditions.

"First, I don't want to play myself. I want to play a character and I want his name to be ridiculous. Also, I want to do something juicy, like murder or slapping or being slapped, or being someone's long-lost something. And ideally, I'd like a dramatic close-up of my face. But in return, trust me, I will give my all to this performance," he said.

Executives heard that call and were more than happy to make it happen.

"When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn't hesitate for a second. He was everything you'd hope he'd be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can't wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles," said executive producer Frank Valentini in a statement.

"General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It's a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show," added Oliver in a separate statement.

Just who Oliver will play has not yet been revealed. But is this week's teaser (in the video player above) giving a hint?

The video shows Carly (Laura Wright) is trying to save her daughter Josslyn (Eden McCoy) from the WSB's double agent Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) while Dr. Olbrecht (Kathleen Gati) states she's completed the prototype from Faison's project that Cullum and Sidwell (Carlo Rota) have been waiting for. Oliver's appearance is promoted at the end of the teaser, where notably, one of his conditions (a dramatic close-up of his face) is met.

The plot thickens, but we'll find out soon! Oliver's guest stint begins Thursday, July 2 and airs through July 6.

"General Hospital" airs weekdays on ABC.

Oliver also announced he'll appear on "Days of Our Lives" sometime in August.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of this ABC station.
