The MTA is encouraging you to do a little reading on your commute.

Subway customers can use smartphones or mobile devices to download free novellas or long excerpts through wireless internet access in underground subway stations.

The Subway Library, which began Thursday, is a partnership between NYC Subways, Penguin Random House and Transit Wireless. So far, more than 175 underground stations have Wi-Fi, and the remainder of subway stations will have Wi-Fi access by the end of this year.

To access the Subway Library, customers can log on to the free Transit Wireless Wi-Fi. Commuters will have two options, e-shorts or extensive excerpts of full-length books.

Works by Lee Child, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Edgar Allan Poe are included. Customers also can choose reading material based on an expected commute time.
