In the play, the actors for the supposedly identical twins look absolutely nothing alike, being of different races and genders, but the premise stays exactly the same.
"It was one of those things where I was so happy and delighted at how dumb and funny- and just really embraced the silly," said Russell Daniels, who plays Annie James. "I actually was like, 'I just need to see how this will even be done on the stage.'"
While audiences are loving this satire of the beloved Lindsay Lohan movie, the cast members are having just as much fun.
"I grew up with 'The Parent Trap,'" said Aneesa Folds, who plays Hallie Parker. "That's one of my favorite movies. I am a Disney kid, and I've always dreamed of, like, taking that marker and drawing the little thing and telling people that my name is Aneesa Folds, and they're watching Disney Channel."
In a chaotic time in the world, "Ginger Twinsies" hopes to offer a reprieve of sorts.
"We want people to come here and forget everything that's going on," said Folds. "And even for us, like, when we're on this stage, it's hard to be in a bad mood. We want the same for our audience just to have joy."
Daniels agrees, hoping to give audiences at the Orpheum Theatre 80 minutes of fun throughout its run, which ends Oct. 25.
"It's 80 minutes of nonstop laughs, and truly, it makes you forget about all the crazy stuff," said Daniels. "And, everyone who comes is just really tickled."
