Delays at Newark Liberty International Airport after equipment outage

Tuesday, September 3, 2024
NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Delays are expected to continue throughout the night at Newark Liberty International Airport after equipment outages were reported on Monday, the FAA said Monday.

The delays of up to 90 minutes are being caused by an equipment outage related to radar.

The FAA said a ground stop is NOT in effect at the airport, and that flights are continuing to arrive and depart.

According to FlightAware:
Total delays at Newark Liberty Intl: 334
Total delays within, into, or out of the United States today at Newark Liberty Intl: 334
Total cancellations today at Newark Liberty Intl: 26
Total cancellations within, into, or out of the United States today at Newark Liberty Intl: 26

The agency issued the clarification after an earlier notice indicated a ground-stop.

The FAA released the following statement:

"The FAA briefly slowed flights into Newark Liberty International Airport this afternoon due to a radar issue. Normal operations have resumed. For updates, please monitor fly.faa.gov."
