The stabbings happened inside 440 West 47th St. around 2:45 p.m., according to officials.
They say a 35-year-old woman was stabbed in the back and neck, and a man in his 30's was stabbed in the torso.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a man on the stoop covered in blood.
A group of people stood beside him trying to get him help. They say the wound looked serious.
A neighbor says three people, two men and a woman, live in the apartment, where he believes the incident stemmed from.
He said he heard an argument in that apartment shortly before the stabbing.
That neighbor says he then stepped in a pool of blood in the elevator on his way downstairs, where he passed by the woman hunched over in the vestibule, where officers were talking to her.
He could not tell what exactly happened to her.
Both of the victims were taken to Mount Sinai West, and police say they are in stable condition.
Police say the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
They have not yet said whether this incident was domestic as they continue to investigate the circumstances.
