NEW YORK (WABC) -- On this episode of "Here and Now," we're going to look at universal childcare and what the Day Care Council of New York is doing to support working families.

We will also look at how innovative programs in the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice are improving public safety and reducing incarceration.

We'll take a look at athletes of color breaking barriers and reshaping the world of sports. We sit down with the granddaughter of Jackie Robinson and look at the commemorative stamp featuring boxing champ Muhammad Ali.

It was one of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's key campaign promises: free childcare for 2-year-olds in New York City. Gov. Kathy Hochul is partnering with him and pledging universal and affordable childcare across the state.

President Trump's threat to block federal funding to NYC puts those programs in jeopardy. And though a federal judge's ruling has blocked the move and kept money flowing, concerns remain.

Here to tell us more is Tara Gardner, the executive director of the Day Care Council of New York, and Gregory Brender, the chief policy officer.

Keeping city streets safe and changing lives for the better are goals being accomplished by the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice through innovative programs that focus on prevention, rehabilitation and job training.

Here to tell us more is the director of the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, Deanna Logan.

Plus, we'll have Tony-nominated creators of "Cats: The Jellicle Ball." This is a re-imagined Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats."

It's an electrifying underground ballroom-inspired production celebrating culture, community and dance. Co-director Zhailon Levingston and choreographer Omari Wiles join us.

We're also shining a spotlight on African Americans who have excelled in the world of sports and broken racial barriers. Jackie Robinson leads that list after he became the first African American to play Major League Baseball.

We are sitting down with his granddaughter, Sonya Pankey Robinson, who is also a board member of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

Speaking of barrier breakers, we'll be discussing the U.S. Postal stamp commemorating "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali with Lonnie Ali and stamp designer and art director of the U.S. Post Office, Antonio Alcala.

And lastly, Ivan Rosado, founder of Evolk, joins us to talk about getting in shape.

Evolk is a lifestyle performance company that merges martial arts, neuroscience and "movement identity." Rosado will talk with us about reaching desired goals through exercise.
