Woman found dead in Long Island home of asphyxiation by chemical substance

HERRICKS, Long Island (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead with facial burns in Herricks last Friday.

The 46-year-old victim was found when officers responded to a welfare check at a home at 143 Larch Dr.

The woman, later identified as Aleena Asif, was unconscious and not breathing when authorities arrived.

The medical examiner has determined her death to be a criminal homicide due to asphyxiation by an unknown chemical substance.

The investigation is ongoing.
