Details surrounding the infant's death are limited, but eyewitnesses say police found him while responding to a noise complaint.
What happened behind the sealed and bolted door is still a mystery, but the 2-month-old was rushed to the hospital and died the next day.
A next-door neighbor says he never heard anything unusual and after returning from a long hospital stay discovered the couple next door faced eviction.
"Well, surprised that the whole crazy thing happened, you know, when I was here last year...I never thought anything like that would happen," the neighbor said.
Authorities have been there several times talking to neighbors. The infant's death is being called a murder, but the cause of death is unknown.
The manager of the historic and well-manicured building said he called the police on the couple living in the apartment now on lockdown.
"They were here for about a month, but they were always arguing and arguing until I couldn't take it anymore and I had to call cops," he said.
His son, who is the superintendent, said the couple living in apartment 107 raised lots of suspicion because of domestic abuse and the sound of a baby crying often.
"Guy looks, you know, calm, quiet... I don't know him personally," the super said. "She was like the aggressor."
