The fire started in a first-floor apartment of a building on 165th Street just before 4 a.m.
Fire officials say four residents suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken for treatment.
Other residents were safely evacuated from the smoke-filled apartment building as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
