Updated 2 hours ago
JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Five people are recovering after someone drove up in a vehicle and threw acid on them in Jersey City, according to police.

It happened on Monday near 105 Wilkinson Ave. Five women were outside the location when individuals riding in a vehicle drove up and threw what is believed to be sulfuric acid at them, according to preliminary information from Jersey City Police.

All five victims were taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries that included skin burns and peeling.

All the victims are stable.

Police say the incident appeared to have been targeted and may have stemmed from a dispute between a large group of people earlier in the day.

The investigation is ongoing.
