The sei whale, approximately 30 to 40 feet in length, washed up overnight after he was spotted in the water Wednesday night.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation is monitoring the whale.
A necropsy will be performed on Friday morning.
It is believed to be the second death of the year in the stretch of beach between Montauk to Cape May.
